These are a spectrum of autoimmune conditions that are diagnosed based on clinical symptoms and specific autoantibody blood tests. They include systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE), systemic sclerosis, Sjogrens syndrome and myositis. Treatment of these conditions concentrates on controlling inflammation and preventing organ damage and most respond well to steroids and immunosuppressants which reduce disease activity by dampening down the overactive immune system.
